About Us

Purpose

The purpose of this site is to help people live well between their ears; to live as content, calm, confident, and tolerant as possible.

Why do some live well between their ears?

I believe it happens for those who understand and feel confident about themselves in any situation. They have a strong sense of who they are and what they can and can't do. They exhibit few signs of self-doubt and appear quietly comfortable around a variety of people.

To live well between your ears is similar to enjoying yourself in a foreign country. When you know the language it's easier and you get more out of it. Similarly, knowing the language of psychology helps explain feelings and behavior which make our lives richer and less confusing.

What else is there about this website?

My study and research focused on self-esteem and self-concept. I developed a test to measure self-esteem and a method to assess your time management which is closely tied to self-concept.

The psychological content on this site is supported by peer reviewed research. The concepts discussed here have been around for years and form the basis for most current psychological research.

If you like any of the short articles, you will find many more in my book, Live well between your ears. Click on the Ad to the right (use the BUY NOW button) and it will take you to Amazon where you can read quite a bit before deciding whether to order it.

A fan of living as holistically as possible, I wander into areas where I’ve had no formal training only personal experience, reading, and careful thought. As a result you will find information related to nutrition, metaphysics, spirituality, and other topics to help us live well between our ears.

A simple goal

More than anything I want this site to be a source of useful information for you and interesting or helpful enough to recommend to your friends. I value your feedback and want to hear from you. Contact us here to send your comments.

Who am I?

Doug 1/2012My name is Doug Spencer. So far my life has been full and interesting. I grew up an only child of loving and modest parents in a prairie town of 500 people. We had a good life with little money. I have two busy sons with families of their own.

Music and writing are two great loves. I studied piano, but at 13 started playing drums and continue to this day.

I earned a Ph.D. in psychology in 1976 from the University of Manitoba. I value it.  Every aspect of my life has been positively influenced by what I think I know about psychology.

Near Gull Lake, SaskatchewanAfter teaching at a Canadian University for 8 years I went into business and subsequently moved my young family from Canada to the USA. I traveled extensively for five years in international sales followed by twenty-two years in financial services before returning to Canada. I write a regular newspaper column, Live well between your ears, about current events in a psychological context. You will find some of the newspaper articles re-printed here. You can find a collection of 110 articles if you search for Live Well Between Your Ears at www.amazon.com,  www.friesenpress.com or www.nookbooks.com
